The below information was given to me by Elayne Rosko, daughter of Nick and Chad Meagher
The new barn that was built at Gramma Meaghers’ was built in the summer of 1947 and the
carpenter’s were: Joe Sandy MacDonald from Mull River, John A Meagher and John
Nicholas who at the time was working in Geraldton and got the SOS call from Gramma
to come home and Nick was going to get married that summer but the wedding was
postponed until the next year and Nick came to Brook Village to help with the barn.
Mom (Chad) took a trip to Boston to visit her aunt that summer.

The Old House
Only an old house, -standing alone,
Its crumbling doorsteps, with weeds overgrown
Full dark glasses and windows with eyes;
Staring on as in woe,
Gazing out on the fields, where the rosebush grows.
Only the sea, that at night softly sighs,
Has known all its sorrows and knows all its joys.
The gay happy voices of children at play,
Becomes quiet and hushed at the closing of day.
And out from the old house on the evening air,
Soft, murmured and low their voices in prayer.
How often with cheer did those rafters ring;
As old friend, the oldest song would merrily sing.
This old house knew sorrow, but of joy had its share,
For a baby’s first cry was received there,
A father’s glad smile and mother's fond tears
Has blessed that old house, with the passing of years.
Death, shadows of sorrow that old house has known;
When the dear loving mother was called away home,
And the old house in memory stands sacred today,
As the angels once entered to bear her away.
Now the children have wandered they’re children no more,
No longer they play by the ocean shore.
But they come once again to stand as in yore,
Beneath that old roof in the old kitchen door
And the old house grows glad and it’s loneliness fades;
As they walk once again down memory lane.
